In the sequence of events, Avalon and Avonlea have been forced to go around the base of the mountain top and approach the fortress from the opposite side. In the comic, several more frames would be needed to convey this kind of detour effectively, so this is more like a key frame. It's really an opportunity to show the opposite side of the fortress.
