This is a new version of Above the Horizon from 2007. I liked everything about the original except for the clouds, which I tried twice to improve upon without satisfaction. Until the time comes when I can paint planetary clouds better from scratch there is the option of using satellite imagery as a base; though it takes a number of steps to make even that work.
The impulse to try something different hit me after I completed work on my last voidscape, as a quick project I could squeeze in around work and school. The main objective was to replace the clouds, but once I got into it I ended up tinkering with everything else before deciding to use a different layout as well. So, while the planet, asteroids and satellite are in the same positions, this version is rotated clockwise 90 degrees and zoomed out a bit.
