Terrain Shaders Test

I've been making mountains... no, for real. The problem with large terrain set pieces is applying decent textures. You can't break it up into mesh material zones unless you have natural creases to hide the seams in. So, the alternative is multi-layer shaders; you can break up the tiling effects of your textures by creative masking of 3 or 4 tiling textures in one shader. At least, that's the theory using Iray. In practice, it takes a little work to set up. This was looking like a successful test; only a little post was needed to clean up areas where the masking was too obvious in the foreground. Unfortunately, the same shader combination did not read well in a different scene test.

Even so, this is progress.
