With my continent generator created, the next experiment involved rendering out inset maps (sub-extents) to see how the terrain came out at different scale-resolutions. Although the main height map is normalized (0 to 1), the local heights of the inset maps remain relative to it at world scale. This was why I generated both height and elevation maps in the first experiment. The elevation maps I produced are all at correct world scale. The normalized-relative height maps provide stronger bas relief.
